• Global Indexing of Topographic Surface

This work has been elaborated by Jan Kolar at 3DGI. It has been submitted and defended in 2006 as a PhD thesis with a title:

Global indexing of topographic surface for 3-D visualization and alalysis

The work introduces original spatial indexing scheme Global Indexing Grid (GIG), which has been applied in multi resolution representation of topographic surface of Earth.

The work also stresses importance of geopotential model when dealing with topography of entire planet in 3d.

GIG, as the core of the work, is a new type of discrete global grid system, and as such can be used in a broad spectrum of other applications.

Acknowledgment belongs to Informi GIS for both financial and institutional support.
